Learning to drive can be a scary time, but remember, your instructor at Matthew’s Driving School had to learn too. They’ll be calm, patient and understanding as you learn to drive and take your test. Driving is a fantastic thing to do, it gives you freedom to not just go to work or the shops but also to visit family, friends and even go on holiday.

As you begin your lessons you will learn all about the car, the roads we drive on and how to be safe when driving. Along with that we will teach you little tricks of the trade to ensure you will always drive safely and securely in the future. You will gain the independence and a great knowledge of driving that you could have never imagined possible.

Most importantly, we’ll make sure you have fun, with our friendly, approachable and highly competent instructors.

There are a few things we thought we should explain further, so you will be ready to learn and have fun with Matthew’s Driving School;

Provisional License

You’ll need this before you begin learning to drive. You can find out more about this and get the forms you need here. Before you can learn to drive a car, moped or motorcycle you must apply for a provisional driving licence, so make sure you get your application in soon, so you can start your driving journey!

Driving Lessons

These start with looking at the car and how to make sure you are safe and secure inside the car, then you’ll get used to moving and stopping the car. After that you’ll start doing maneuvers, looking at junctions, roundabouts, different road types and much much more. The amount of lessons you have depends on you and your instructor. There are no guarantee’s, but we will ensure you learn to a very high standard and safely.

Theory Test And Hazard Perception Test

You need to pass both the theory test and hazard perception test to be able to apply for the practical part of your driving test. The theory test is made up of a multiple choice part and a hazard perception part. You need to pass both parts to pass it. You can find out more and book your theory test here. You’ll need to study the highway code to be able to pass these tests, but don’t worry, we’ll be on hand to help you revise and study. We offer theory lessons to, where we can dedicate the whole lesson to revising theory.

Show Me Tell Me

This is part of the practical test, it’s where your examiner will ask you to show them and tell them various things about the car including – where and how to check the tyres, brakes, fluid levels, lights, direction indicators, power steering and horn. Your instructor with Matthew’s Driving School will go through all of these things with you as you take your lessons so you are fully prepared for this part of your practical test.

Practical Driving Test

This is the bit everyone dreads, but fear not! Although we cannot guarantee you pass, we will do everything we can to ensure you are fully prepared for the practical part of your test. We’ll make sure you are ready before we suggest you go for the test and we will do a series of mock tests before you take it. The mock test does exactly what it says on the tin. We’ll get you used to being under test conditions and will assess your performance, fully reviewing with you afterwards, any pointers we feel you need to brush up on. Don’t worry though, everyone gets nervous!

Pass Plus

Once you have passed your theory and practical tests you will gain your full driving license. Something many people do after their test to either get used to their own car, increase their driving experiences or (the best reason) to save money on your car insurance! There are a number of required driving situations you must complete like town, motorways, weathers and others that you will be taught. There is no exam at the end but you will be assessed to ensure your driving is up to scratch.

Refresher Lessons

If you learned to drive a while ago and haven’t been in the car since, then you may feel you need some refresher lessons. Matthew’s Driving School offer refresher lessons that will give you back the confidence to drive alone. We’ll go through general driving and maneuvers until you feel you are ready to go it alone.
